Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan research
   • Verify and ensure compliance with relevant legislative, work health and safety and workplace requirements related to researching furniture styles and movement
   • Clearly define research objectives and scope based on work needs from design brief
   • Evaluate and select formal and informal research methods based on their potential to meet research objective
   • Identify and locate relevant and credible sources of information on furniture styles and movements
2. Gather and analyse information on furniture styles and movements
   • Gather information using a systematic approach
   • Establish relevance of information against research objectives
   • Compare and contrast different information sources and extract key information
   • Identify different influences on furniture styles, movements and features
   • Identify significant trends, designers and techniques and their influences on styles and movements
   • Apply research information to current furniture design trends, philosophy and surrounding buildings
   • Organise and compile research materials and results of research in a manner that facilitates future use and reference
